Ayyappa Paniker's Kurukshethram, composed during 1951-57
and published only in 1960, ushered in a new voice in modern Malayalam
Poetry. N.V.Krishna Warrier , the then editor of Mathrubhoomi
weekly, outrightly rejected the poem as unfit for publication
in his journal . Finally, it was C.N Sreekantan Nair who published
this poem in his Deshabandhu weekly.
